BJP MLAs: 15 BJP MLAs meet Shekhawat in Delhi; Joshi, Arun Singh see Nadda | Jaipur News

Jaipur/Jaisalmer: Amid speculations over the CM face in Rajasthan, Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was visited by nearly 15 newly elected BJP legislators at his residence in Delhi on Monday. Shekhawat, who is seen as a frontrunner for the post of CM, also had a brief meeting with PM Narendra Modi in parliament earlier in the day.
“The MLAs travelled from different parts of the state to extend their support to Shekhawat for the top post. Some of them, especially those from western Rajasthan, travelled overnight to reach him,” said a source close to the Union jal shakti minister. Shekhawat will be in Delhi till BJP’s parliamentary board decides the name of the CM of Rajasthan.
Sources said some more BJP MLAs are expected to visit Shekhawat on Tuesday. “All this indicates the rise of his might and popularity among the party’s newly elected MLAs. The defeat of two senior leaders – Leader of Opposition Rajendra Singh Rathore and deputy leader of Opposition Satish Poonia – has created a vacuum in the party’s state leadership, which is proving an advantage for Shekhawat,” said a source.
According to reports, Shekhawat was called to Delhi on Sunday, hours before the final election results were announced. This raised speculation about his being considered for the CMs post and about his likely meetings with BJP’s central leaders. The party’s parliamentary board is expected to meet on Wednesday to decide the CMs in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh.
Meanwhile, Pokharan MLA Mahant Pratap Puri was called by BJP’s central leaders to Delhi. He reached Delhi on Monday afternoon. Sources said he would meet senior BJP leaders on Tuesday and that he might be given “a lot of responsibilities”. As per speculations, if Shekhawat is chosen as the CM, Puri will vacate his seat in in Jaisalmer district, so that Shekhawat contests from there. Meanwhile, BJP state president CP Joshi and state in-charge Arun Singh met the party’s national president, JP Nadda, in Delhi on Monday. “The duo briefed Nadda on the ground situation and discussed the formation of government in Rajasthan,” said a BJP source.
