Hospital Maintenance: Building Needs Repair; Campus Is Encroached |

Jaipur: The existing building of the government-run Satellite Hospital on MD Road is in a bad shape. This hospital is also perhaps the only one in the city that is encroached upon with reckless abandon. People have been living in hut-like structures on the hospital campus for years.
During the rains recently, employees at the hospital’s the microbiology lab had a close shave as a big slab of concrete fell from the ceiling. The incident hampered the functioning of the lab for some time. Signs of seepage can be seen on walls and ceilings in many parts of the building that was constructed in 1995. It is in serious need of maintenance.
Earlier, there were temporary structures built on the hospital campus to house patients from SMS Hospital with highly contagious and infectious diseases. The structures were called ‘chhapar bada’.
“Some employees of the hospital at that time were given some space to live in those structures. After their retirement, their families are still living here,” said Dr Vinay Joshi, principal medical officer of Satellite Hospital, adding that the hospital management has written to the government to resolve this issue for expansion of the hospital
The hospital management has written to the public works department (PWD) for repair of the building. A proposal of Rs 1.7 crore has also been sent to the government for the repair, said officials.
