Pali: Pali Likely To Face Severe Water Crisis As Summer Approaches | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Water crisis in Pali district is going to be the worst in the state as summer approaches. The district that relies on Jawai Sagar Dam for its drinking and irrigation needs is fast drying up with rising temperature. Even last year’s good monsoon could not provide water to the whole district. The estimated population of Pali in 28 lakh as per Aadhaar data in 2022 and the district requires 25 million litres of water every day.
Residents living in the tehsils of Sojat, Marwar Junction and Bali are living in fear of acute scarcity of drinking water and soon can witness migration of families and livestock. MLA Sojat City Shobha Chauhan has asked the water resource department to expedite the pipe connection from Jawai Sagar Dam and tap connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission, but to no avail.
“Since the beginning of May, the situation is going to be terrible for residents of Sojat City. The government has been ignoring the water projects as people voted for the BJP. Every year, the constituency faces severe water crises for domestic and agricultural needs. Sojat City, renowned for mehendi crop, is facing an existential crisis with the net sown areas having reduced many times due to shortage of water,” said Chauhan.
Pali is among the few districts in the country which had to be served water via water train from Jodhpur. Last year, good rains filled Jawai Sagar Dam to an extent that it can meet the bare minimum requirement till May-June.
Refuting claims of elected representatives, Kan Singh Ranawat of PHED Pali, said, “The Jawai Sagar dam has enough water to fulfil the needs till October. Anyhow, the rain will come by July and fill up the water reserves and recharge wells. I don’t think that this year we will face the crises to a level that water train will be needed.”
