Indira Gandhi: Broken Branch Of Ig Canal Unattended For Three Days In Jaisalmer | Jaipur News

Jaisalmer: Just a few days after water was released in the Indira Gandhi (IG) canal by the Punjab government after a month’s closure, lack of maintenance has led to a breach in a sub-branch of the canal in Bharewala area of Jaisalmer district. What is worse is that three days have passed but the breach is yet to be repaired.
Local villagers blamed officers of the canal department for letting thousands of gallons of water going waste because of the breach, at a time when water has been in short supply due to the canal closure.
According to reports, accumulation of sand and garbage in the sub-branch from the Charanwala distributory near Bharewala village in Nachana area caused the breach. Officers did not inspect it before releasing the water, due to which on Friday night at 10pm the canal suffered a breach. Farmers waiting at the tail end did not receive any water. Even after complaints from the farmers, the canal has not yet been repaired.
