Industries Dept To Aid Handloom Sector To Find New Market, Buyers | Jaipur News

Jaipur: In a bid to strengthen the manufacturing capacity of handloom, handicraft, khadi and terracotta and find new markets for their products, the industry department on Tuesday laid out a plan for organizing handloom week in August this year.
While a buyer and seller meet would be the core area of the event, focus will be also on design innovation, adoption of new techniques and live demonstration of various products manufacturing by the artisans engaged in the sectors.
The five-day event starting from August 3 is part of the Budget proposals for 2023-24 announced by the chief minister in February. The objective is to empower and build capacity of weavers, handicraft makers and other artisans.
The meeting which was chaired by ACS Industries Veenu Gupta and attended by Industries commissioner Mahendra Kumar Parakah and other senior officials of the department made a proposal to rope in Rajasthan Export Promotion Council and Export Promotion Council for Handicraft who will reach out to the international buyers to participate in the event.
It was suggested to include Indian Institute of Crafts and Design (IICD) National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to help the industries department in putting up a fashion show of the products for generating better interest among the buyers. An exhibition of the handloom production is on the cards for which the department will reach out to organizations like Khadi, weavers union, Rural Non-Farm Development Agency (RUDA), Weavers’ Service Centre, Rajasthan Small-scale Industries Corporation, and other related government agencies. The event was announced in the budget to help the artisans in the state to get better prices for their products, learn about new trends which are in demand and adopt innovative techniques for faster production.
