Intimate Relationship: Staffer Dies, 37 Kids Hurt As School Bus Overturns | Jaipur News

Jaisalmer: Forty people, including 37 children, were injured and a school assistant died after a private school bus in which they were going to the school met with an accident and overturned near Bhainsda village in Pokhran subdivision of Jaisalmer district on Wednesday morning.
Fourteen people, including 13 children, were referred to Jodhpur in a critical condition. School assistant Vikram Singh, 22, a resident of Bhinyad in Barmer district, died during treatment. Many of the children, all aged between 8 and 12 years, were discharged from the hospital after treatment late in the evening.
The bus, carrying students of Gyanpeeth Bal Niketan School, a middle school in Bhainsda town, was coming to the school as usual when the accident took place, said SHO Adarsh Kumar of Sankra police station. “School assistant Vikram Singh’s body was handed over to his relatives after post-mortem. His relatives have filed a case against the bus owner,” he added.
Jaisalmer SP Vikas Sangwan, additional district collector Gopal Lal Swarnakar and other police officers reached the spot after receiving information of the accident and also visited the hospital. They met the injured children and inquired of their well-being. District collector Himanshu Gupta and other officers also reached MDM Hospital and enquired of treatment of the children.
Family members of the children had reached the spot and joined police personnel from Sankda police station in rescue and relief work. It is said that there were too many children in the school bus and that the driver, Jeenraj Singh, packed had packed them in the bus. Singh and 25 children are under treatment at Pokaran Hospital.
ASI Khushal Chand of Sankra police station said said there were 40 people, including 37 children, in the bus. “About 2 km before the school, the overloaded bus lost balance and got off the road. It overturned due to the wet soil. All the 37 children were injured. The police team and nearby villagers pulled them out by straightening the bus. Many children were seen bleeding from their heads, hands and mouths. We (police) took them to Pokaran Hospital,” he added.
Pokaran DTO Surendra Singh Rajpurohit said the fitness of the bus was over in March and that it also did not have the permit of Bal Vahini to transport children. “We are taking strict action against them. We have launched an intensive campaign for others erring similarly,” he added.
