JAIPUR: The city police on Friday arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl.
Police have identified the accused as Papu Lal. “The accused works as a labourer. He went to the minor’s house on the pretext of asking for food and touched her inappropriately. When the girl got scared and screamed for help, the accused fled from the spot. He saw her parents coming after him,” said inspector Dharam Raj Choudhary.
Police said that the incident took place shortly after 12.30pm. The accused entered the girl’s house, located in a secluded area, when he found her alone. Police said that they scanned CCTVs of the area and immediately sent teams that fanned out in different directions to catch the accused. The accused had earlier worked in a college, not far from the place where the girl lives with her parents.
The accused was arrested on late Friday evening. “The incident will be considered rape. We have registered the FIR under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO),” the official said.
The city police said that they were also examining the previous records of the accused.
