Jaipur Elections: Former Cs Arya Sure Of His Victory In Bjp Bastion | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Former chief secretary Niranjan Arya, who got the Congress ticket for Sojat seat in Pali district, on Monday said he had been preparing for the assembly polls for the past two years after his retirement.
He said his transition from cloistered air-conditioned offices to the tough and tumble of politics was smooth as he had been preparing for it.
Exuding confidence of his victory in the elections, he said he was travelling nearly 12,000 km a month in the last 24 months to cover every nook and corner of the constituency. “ I am 100 percent sure of my victory,” he said, talking to TOI over the phone.
A confidante of chief minister Ashok Gehlot, Arya was appointed as one of the CM’s advisors upon his retirement in January 2022.
Though several bureaucrats have jumped into the electoral fray in recent times, it is perhaps for the first time that a retired chief secretary (CS) is contesting the assembly elections. He is also the first chief secretary from the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, which is another first to his credit.
Chief minister Ashok Gehlot had promoted him to the post of chief secretary from that of finance secretary superseding many seniors and creating heartburn among seniors in the bureaucracy.
However, it will not be a cake walk for Arya as he is pitted against BJP’s sitting MLA Shobha Chauhan in this SC-reserved seat.
Sojat is a BJP stronghold where the saffron party has never faced defeat since 2003. BJPs Laxmi Narayan Dave won the seat in 2003, followed by Sanjana Agari twice (2008 and 2013).
Agari defeated Sangeeta Arya, wife of Niranjan Arya, in 2013. At present, Sangeeta Arya is a member of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC).
In 2018, BJP fielded Shobha Chauhan from the seat and she won it hands down.
Arya claimed that the situation in the district had changed and was now favourable for the ruling party.

Pandian, a 2000-batch Odisha cadre IAS officer, has been serving as PS to the CM since 2011 and has been the most powerful bureaucrat in the state. Speculation has been rife that Pandian may enter state politics, but he has faced criticism for violating service condition rules and not everyone in the ruling BJD party agrees with his way of working.
