Jaipur: ESIC hospital exhibits dishes of millet to boost consumption | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: While the Centre is working on a robust strategy to promote millets, its ESIC Model Hospital is encouraging people to use millets in daily life. Its Jaipur branch is organising a millet exhibition as part of the fortnight celebration to commemorate 71st foundation day of ESIC. At the exhibition, doctors are presenting millet dishes to visitors to create awareness about the nutritional value of millets.
“Different types of millets have been placed for exhibition and items prepared from these millets have also been served to the visitors. Visitors are being informed about the nutritive importance of millets, which are rich in protein, antioxidants and amino acids which are good for health,” said Dr Akhilesh Jain, nodal officer of the fortnight celebration.
The doctors made the visitors aware about the country’s top five millet producing states, which are Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, making India one of the leading producers of millets in the world with an estimated share of around 41 percent in the global production.
At the exhibition, the doctors made people aware that millets have superior nutritional values in comparison to highly consumed cereals such as rice and wheat. Millets are rich in calcium, iron, and fibers that help in fortifying essential nutrients for the healthy growth in children. Also, the usage of millets in infant food and nutrition products is increasing.
The fortnight celebration will continue till March 10 during which several health check up camps, health awareness talks, nukkad natak, yoga camp at workplace, and a special cleanliness drive will take place.
