Jaipur Ranking Meet: 8 Shuttlers Suspended | Jaipur News
Jaipur: The indoor hall of the SMS Stadium witnessed unruly scenes after a few parents protested against age fraud at the ongoing All India Sub Junior Ranking badminton tournament here on Wednesday.
Taking cognisance of the matter, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) suspended eight shuttlers from the tournament. Rajasthan’s Suhasi Verma and Somyaa Bhatnagar, Delhi’s Manan Kumar and Ishita Negi, Andhra Pradesh’s Joel Nikhil and Tanmay Dhawan, Andhra Pradesh’s Vishnu Kedar and Telangana’s Akhilesh Somani have been barred from participation.
Commenting on the issue, BAI age fraud committee chairman and Rajasthan Badminton Association secretary KK Sharma told TOI, “We sent the documents related to age manipulation to BAI and they asked us to suspend eight players from the tournament. The BAI general secretary will issue a letter to the state associations whose players’ names have cropped up in the age fraud. The age fraud committee will hold a meeting to discuss the issue as soon as possible and communicate the decision to the general secretary.”
On condition of anonymity, an aggrieved parent said, “In our child’s case there is no age fraud and we can prove that. We have written to BAI about it and we know our child will come out clean.”
Meanwhile, the qualification rounds ended on Wednesday and the main draw will start from Thursday. tnn
