Jaipur: Whiff of booze racket a day after 200 drums of illegal spirits seized | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: After over 200 drums of spirit were recovered from four spurious liquor manufacturing plants in Jaipur on Sunday, investigators suspect a possible nexus facilitated the supply of spirits, which is otherwise highly regulated.
The crime branch of city police on Sunday conducted multiple raids and searches across four locations under Shivdaspura and Sanganer Sadar police station areas. Besides automatic machines wherein spirits was mixed with water to illegally produce liquor, police found several drums and packets of spirits.
Police said prima facie spirit appears to be ethyl alcohol, a substance frequently used for the illegal manufacturing of liquor. “Supply and distribution of ethyl alcohol are tightly regulated, including quantity and destination of the product,” said an official, adding that it is suspected that there was some mole in the supply chain due to which the ethyl alcohol fell into the hands of racketeers. “It is also possible that the consignment was to some other location but it somehow reached the hands of illegal liquor manufacturers,” the official said. Police said they are also examining where the ethyl was produced and the supply chains through which it reached Jaipur.
Additional commissioner of police (crime) Ajay Pal Lamba said two kingpins of the racket are currently on the run, and once they are arrested, police will be able to find clues about how the accused procured a large quantity of the raw materials.
