Jaisalmer: Ngt To Hold Meet Virtually On Dunes | Jaipur News
Jaisalmer: The visit by a team of National Green Tribunal (NGT) to Jaisalmer on April 17-18, has been cancelled. The team was coming to study the effect of tourism activities in Sam and Khuhadi sand dunes on wildlife and environment.
Now, the NGT through video conferencing will hold discussions with the district collector, state pollution control board and other representatives of departments concerned on April 17 or 18. On April 1, the administration along with pollution control board visited these areas and prepared the ground report and sent it to NGT.
District collector Tina Dabi said that National Green Tribunal had asked the administration about the effects of tourism activities on the ecosystem and environment in Sam sand dunes. According to the administrative sources, till now such an official study has not been done.
The district administration has given suggestion to get the study done during the tourism season, i.e., during September to January.
It was also informed that the economy of Jaisalmer is dependent on tourism, therefore, there should be no narrow-minded restrictions which affect the tourism industry.
The district collector said that it was informed that special attention is paid towards cleanliness of Sam sand dunes.
It was also suggested that at present all kinds of activities are being conducted at one place which should be organised in different areas like camel rides in Sam sand dunes, jeep safari at Lakhmana sand dunes and paramotoring and paragliding at some other place.
