Surpura: Bjp ‘rebel’ Surpura To Contest As Independent From Jhotwara | Jaipur News

Jaipur: The BJP continues to grapple with challenges after it decided to field MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore from Jhotwara Assembly seat. In a new development, another aspiring candidate, Ashu Singh Surpura, on Saturday organised a massive protest after being denied party ticket.
In the Jhotwara constituency, Surpura led a rally with his supporters, showcasing his mass support, clearly signalling his intent to contest independently, without the party’s endorsement.
Surpura, who asserts to have dedicated 14 years of service to the constituency, said, “I have decided to run as an Independent candidate. The party should have considered local candidates rather than parachutes.”
Surpura directed criticism at BJP candidate Rathore, demanding that he present a report card of his 10-year tenure to the public as MP.
Addressing his supporters, Surpura conveyed that there were rumours of him being pressured to withdraw from the election, but he reassured them by placing his hand on Geeta and vowed that no force would deter him from contesting the elections. He pledged to compete and secure victory with the support of the local populace.
Rathore’s candidature is already being opposed by BJP’s ex-MLA from the same seat and former minister Rajpal Singh Shekhawat. Surpura said to be enjoying the tactical support of Shekhawat.
A multitude of supporters from the entire assembly constituency gathered on Khatipura Sirsi Road to show their support. The enthusiastic crowd chanted slogans in favour of Surpura. During the rally, 63-year-old Jagdish Yadav, a resident of Dhankya, vowed to remain barefoot until Ashu Singh emerged victorious in the elections.
