Jaipur: A head constable from Kota’s Udyog Nagar police station was sent to disciplinary lines after a viral video depicting policemen assaulting a man on a busy market street circulated on Tuesday.
SHO (Udyog Nagar) Manoj Kumar stated that the video in question was recorded on Saturday when a police team responded to a distress call regarding a man, identified as Raju Amera, who was allegedly in a drunken stupor and entered a bakery. As per cops, Amera allegedly attacked the police team with stones when they unsuccessfully tried to subdue him multiple times. Locals also expressed their outrage which showed the officers kicking and striking the man with their batons even as was lying on the ground. Senior officials took notice of the circulating video after it sparked outrage and ordered the head constable, Pratap Singh, to be sent to lines until an investigation is pending. Three angry cops were shown in the video, two of them grabbing the man’s hands from either side as the third continuously bashed him with a baton. There have been multiple videos going viral on social media now.
An official stated, “The investigation into this case has been assigned to a deputy SP (DSP) rank officer of the area. Pending the investigation, the head constable has been sent to lines.”
