Land Reclamation: Jaisalmer Admn Reclaims 1,000 Bighas Of Encroached Land In Gadisar Catchment Area | Jaipur News

The operation, led by Municipal Council Commissioner Lajpal Singh Sodha, Jaisalmer Tehsildar Nirbharam, and UIT Tehsildar Prem Shera, involved the use of JCB machines to uproot the fencing that had been set up around the encroached fields. The police was also present at the spot to ensure a smooth execution.
The action was initiated in response to complaints about fencing on 300-400 bighas of land within the catchment area. With the cooperation of the district collector and the SP, the encroachments were removed, and the wires used for fencing were seized. The encroachers were bound by the authorities not to repeat such illegal activities in the future.
Commissioner Sodha affirmed that this action against encroachment and illegal land possession will be an ongoing effort in the future. In recent times, there had been a surge in encroachments within the Gadisar catchment area, prompting the revenue, municipal council, and UIT officers to address the issue promptly.
According to sources, lack of coordination among the three departments had previously hindered effective removal of encroachments. However, the situation changed when all three departments collaborated and took action together, leading to the successful reclamation of the encroached land on Monday.
The encroachments were particularly concentrated near Jaisalmer city, with some instances involving the construction of permanent houses. Initially, encroachers established temporary structures before solidifying their illegal claims over the land.
The consequences of unchecked encroachments were severe, as they disrupted the water flow to the Gadisar lake. If not addressed, the water flow to the lake would have eventually ceased, posing a threat to the very existence of Gadisar.
