Jaipur: Almost eight years after a woman was drugged and strangulated to death, a court here on Monday awarded life imprisonment to her husband. A fine of Rs 30,000 was also slapped on the convict, Ashwini Kumar Bharti, a resident of CB Gang in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. “The family of the woman had also accused the man of dowry harassment,” said special public prosecutor Naresh Gajraj.
The murder took place on February 15, 2015, at the rented accommodation of the couple at Shipra Path in Mansarover in Jaipur. TNN

Jagadeeswara Reddy, from Agraharam village in Irala mandal, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the sixth ASJ Shanti for murdering his wife Sushmita in May 2020. The accused, who suspected her fidelity, slit her throat at their residence. Their daughter discovered her mother’s lifeless body and filed a complaint with Irala police. Jagadeeswara Reddy was arrested in YS gate locality and convicted under 235 (2) of Cr.PC. Superintendent of police (Chittoor) Y Rishant Reddy commended the police and prosecution teams for their efforts in solving the case.

Geeta Kumari (41) has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Hardoi district court for the murder of her husband Kamlesh Kumar (42) in 2018. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Geeta Kumari. The conviction was based on testimony from eight witnesses, including the victim’s father and their daughter. Geeta allegedly murdered Kamlesh by slitting his throat with a sickle after a domestic dispute. The murder weapon, a bloodstained sickle, was recovered from the scene and forensic analysis confirmed its use in the crime.
