Jaipur: Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) Vijay Sampla said complaints about atrocities on Scheduled Caste people in society do not reach the appropriate forum and so social organisations should play an important role. He said there is an urgent need for society to get over the mentality of discrimination towards people belonging to Scheduled Castes.
He was speaking at a state-level review meeting at the collectorate auditorium on Wednesday.
He said these days the commission comes to know about incidents against Scheduled Castes through the social media and action has been taken by the commission on 95 per cent of the incidents suo motu. He said social organisations should come forward to inform the commission in writing about the incidents happening in society so that necessary action could be taken against the perpetrators.
Sampla said in order to protect the rights of people belonging to Scheduled Castes, there is a need for mass awareness about the schemes being run for their welfare, development and upgrade.
Social Justice and empowerment minister Tikaran Jully and PWD minister Bhajanlal Jatav were also present on the occasion.
