Jaipur: The state police have filed a chargesheet in the SC/ST court in Dholpur against Bari MLA Girraj Malinga for allegedly assaulting a Dalit engineer of the Rajasthan Energy Department more than a year ago. The move came after Malinga switched parties and joined the BJP on November 5 after being denied the Congress party ticket to contest the upcoming election.
On March 28 last year, Harshadhipati, an engineer with the power department in Dholpur, was allegedly assaulted by Malinga, the Congress MLA for Bari in the district.
Following this, an FIR in which Malinga is an accused was registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. So far, a chargesheet had not been filed in the case, and Malinga is out on bail in the case.
A senior police official confirmed on Saturday, “The chargesheet has been filed in the court. Following the recent High Court directions, it was filed on November 8.”
On November 4, the case was heard again in the High Court, and a request was made in the court to cancel the bail of Malinga. The court was apprised that the engineer is unable to stand even today. During the hearing, the government said that once the chargesheet in Malinga’s case is finalized, it will be presented in the court soon after the trial. The state advocate said that the chargesheet has also been prepared against Malinga, and it will be presented soon after receiving the approval.
According to sources, “The CID had already completed the investigation two months ago in the case, and considering the allegations, orders were given to file a challan on September 26 itself, but the police filed it now.”
When TOI contacted the MLA and asked if this is a pressure tactic that the Congress is using after he left the party, he said, “They only know what they want to do. So far, I have no information about the chargesheet. If it is filed, I have nothing to say.”
A source said that after the incident, the MLA surrendered on May 11, 2022, after meeting Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. A day later, Malinga, who had been ordered to be sent to judicial custody by a local court in Dholpur, tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to a hospital. Within a week of his arrest, he was also granted bail by the Rajasthan High Court.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have filed a chargesheet against two terrorists, including Mohammad Amin Bhat alias Jahangir Saroori, a long-standing member of the Hizbul Mujahideen. Saroori, one of the oldest surviving terrorists in the region, is believed to be hiding in Kishtwar district and carries a reward of Rs 50 lakh on his head. This is the first time that the police have indicted a banker and a resolution professional for cheating during the corporate debtor’s insolvency process. The chargesheet alleges that they conspired to prepare a bogus forensic report and caused wrongful loss to EISML. Axis Bank, where the former deputy vice-president worked, stated that the matter is under police investigation and they are cooperating with the authorities.
