Sources among the Congress leaders in JMC Heritage had claimed that four names are doing rounds for the post – Nasreen Bano, Rabia Gudej, Sunita Mahavar, and Reshma Begum Qureshi. However, 38-year-old Bano – the councillor of water number 64 – has the edge over the three other contenders.
“A meeting had been held to select the Mayor of JMC Heritage on Sunday evening. Nasreen Bano is leading the race. Government is expected to announce the name on Monday morning,” a senior JMC Heritage councilor disclosed.
Sources said, two factors are keeping Bano ahead of her contenders. First, she belongs to the minority community. Second, she is well qualified. The 38-year-old is a mother of 9-year-old daughter and hails from the walled city area since birth. She had completed her schooling from the Maharaja Girls Senior Secondary School in Choti Chopad and obtained her BA degree from Maharani Girls College.
If selected, Bano would be the first Muslim mayor of JMC Heritage and also the first Muslim mayor of undivided Jaipur Municipal Corporation before bifurcation. tnn
