Mhtr: Raje Pulls Up Raj Govt Over Death Of Mukundra Tigress | Jaipur News
KOTA: A day after the death of pregnant 9-year-old tigress MT-4 in Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve (MHTR) in Kota on Thursday, former chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Friday took to her Twitter handle and pulled up the Ashok Gehlot government for its death and asked to take tiger re-introduction in MHTR seriously.
Raje said the death of tigress was yet another setback for the tiger project, which she claimed was ‘already gravely mismanaged by the ruling disposition’.
“Death of tiger MT-4 at Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve is devastating. And yet another huge setback for the project, which is already gravely mismanaged by the ruling disposition. I implore the state govt. to take the Tiger re-introduction in #MHTR seriously. Protocols are laid….”, Raje tweeted.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Sangod, Bharat Singh, labeled MT4’s death unfortunate and a major setback to MHTR and tiger project at a time while enthusiasts were expecting positive and good news from the reserve. Singh, who is also member of state wildlife board, urged the state government and National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) to shift at least two tigresses to MHTR to pair with the lone tiger MT-5 in the reserve.
Wildlife activist and ex-honorary wildlife warden Bittal Sanadhya termed the death of MT4 a result of inadequate tracking by forest staff and failure in diagnosing pregnancy of animal on time. He pointed out lack of safety measures referring to free movement of bulls in the reserve area that fell prey to the big cat causing constipation like trouble with MT-4. “An Indian Forest Service officer had earlier mentioned water in MHTR was contaminated or contained elements, tended to cause digestive troubles to animals”, Sanadhya said.
A delegation of wildlife enthusiasts also held a meeting with field director, MHTR, Sharda Pratap Singh, and shared their concern while demanding translocation of more than one tigress for the tiger in the reserve. The medical team failed to ascertain the pregnancy of MT4 on May 1 when she was first tranquilised, said a team member.
