JAIPUR: The traffic wing of the state police has distributed medicines that can be administered to commuters who suffer sudden heart attacks on roads.
ADG (Traffic) V K Singh said 100 police stations, mostly those on major highways, were recently given extensive basic life support training. “As part of the training, we have also distributed medical kits for emergency response that includes drugs that can be given to people getting a heart attack. These drugs provide enough time for a patient to be moved to the nearest hospital,” Singh added.
He said that medicines are prescribed by doctors and now form part of medical emergency first aid that could timely save lives.
Singh said that traffic constables and staff of 100 police stations have already undergone training, while a similar programme is underway for other police stations in the state.
“Apart from medicines, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training sessions were also organised,” Singh said.He said that the traffic police for the past few years have been working toward minimising fatalities due to accidents by facilitating immediate support. Singh said that traffic police officials have been holding meetings with experts to reduce all kind of risk that a person may have while driving.
The Rajasthan police officials said that many a time they have come across patients with heart attacks needing immediate medical attention. “Some situations become even more challenging if there is no hospital or a clinic nearby. Therefore, it is important there is some help available that could facilitate the golden hour period in which a patient has enough time to be rushed to the hospital,” said an official, adding that basic life support training was equally important to ensure that people who face medical emergency due to a heart attack could be saved.
