Water Needs: No Major Rainfall Prediction Till Aug 20, Dry Spell To Prevail | Jaipur News

Compared to heavy rainfall during the months of June and July, the first 20 days of August would almost be dry. Due to the weak monsoon conditions the water-level at some of the dams and reservoirs has started depleting.
TOI on Saturday spoke to officers of the Met office to know how the monsoon will progress in the state.
“For next one week the activities of the monsoon will be weak in the state. On August 16 and August 17, there is a possibility of mild to moderate showers in Kota and Bharatpur regions of the state, respectively. In western Rajasthan, there are negligible chances of rainfall in the coming days,” said an officer with the Met office, Jaipur.
However, some of the isolated places in the state witnessed showers.
People in Jaipur woke up to another dry morning when a minimum temperature of 26.2 degree Celsius was recorded. It was followed by a sultry afternoon when a maximum temperature of 34.4 degree Celsius was recorded. At Jaipur a humidity of 79% was recorded.
Attributing the weak monsoon to lower humidity levels. “Humidity at or above 90% always plays the role of catalyst in converting clouds into rainfall. Since the humidity levels are not that high the rainfall activity is lesser in the state, presently,” said a Met officer.
Due to lack of rainfall this month till now no water is coming to the catchment areas of the dams across the state. There has been no flow of water since last in the catchment area of the Bisalpur dam, which caters to the drinking water needs of Tonk, Ajmer and Jaipur.
In its forecast, the Met office said that dry conditions will continue in the state for the next couple of days.
