Nakshatra: Punjab Raises Water Supply But Farmers Continue Protest In Sriganganagar Dist | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Although the Punjab government had increased the water supply into the Gang Canal System to 2,000 cusecs on Tuesday, the agitating farmers’ associations are yet to withdraw their protest. However, the farm associations are hopeful that state government would supply water temporarily into the link channel of the Gang Canal System from Indira Gandhi Canal, as demanded by the associations.
“On Tuesday Punjab had increased Rajasthan’s share to 2,000 cusecs. However, we are not going to withdraw the agitation until and unless the Punjab government started releasing the full quota of 2,800 cusecs. Better portion of water available in the Gang Canal System are used for drinking water purposes and hardly any water would be utilized for irrigation,” said Amar Singh Bishnoi, from the Samyukt Kishan Morcha – an amalgamation of four farm unions of Sriganganagar district.
Members of the associations claimed that the water supplied by Punjab on Monday and Tuesday would take another three to four days to reach Rajasthan. TNN
