Lyricist and songwriter Javed Akhtar opened up about a fascinating chapter from his life that had him proposing marriage to a French woman he met on the sets of a film.
The veteran lyricist and writer spilled the beans about his love life before his marriages to Honey Irani and Shabana Azmi. While in a candid chat on the show ‘Cyrus Says’, Javed revealed that he had first popped the question to a French woman named Joseanne, whom he met during the shoot of Rajesh Khanna’s 1977 film ‘Tyaag.’
Recalling his meeting with Joseanne, he said that after meeting her on the film sets, he bumped into her again at a party and quickly became friends.Their friendship quickly blossomed and the two even got acquainted with each other’s friends.Their friendship evolved rather quickly, prompting Joseanne to stay on in Mumbai while her other friends flew back to France. Fondly recalling their time together, Javed said that he began to realise the expense they incurred on taxi fares from Taj till Bandra, which would cost Rs 14. “One day I realized what was happening. So I told her either she should go back or marry me.”
Sadly, the lady said, “I will go back.”
He went on to reveal that at the time, Joseanne didn’t have any money to take the trip back home. “So, I said ‘don’t worry about that, I will take care of it.’ Whatever money I had, I bought her ticket, and she left,” he said.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, the they crossed paths again at the famous Kala Ghoda festival in Mumbai, after 38 years. The two reconnected and Javed flew to Paris with his wife, Shabana Azmi and made sure to take gifts for Joseanne, her partner and her three children.
Javed concluded his cute story by revealing that his former flame presented him with a 38-year-old boarding card she had kept safely for all these years.
