Jaipur: There was a 0.97% increase in urban voting this year over the 2018 assembly elections in Rajasthan, data from the state’s election department revealed.
While in 2018 the urban voting in the state was 70.26%, it went up to 71.23% in 2023. Sawai Madhopur registered the highest increase in urban voting at 3.10%.
There are four assembly seats in Sawai Madhopur district – Bamanwas (ST), Khandaar(SC), Sawai Madhopur and Gangapur city.In a three-cornered fight, the Sawai Madhopur assembly seat witnessed a stiff contest between Congress’ sitting MLA Danish Abrar, BJP’s Kirori Lal Meena, who is a Rajya Sabha MP, and Independent candidate Asha Meena. In Gangapur city, it was fight between Congress’ Ramkesh Meena and BJP’s Mansingh Gurjar. In Bamanwas assembly seat, it was fight betweenCongress party’s Indra Meena and BJP’s Rajendra.
Congress’ sitting MLA Ashok and BJP’s Jitendra Kumar Ghotwal were in a two-way fight in Khandar assembly seat.
In Jaipur district, there was an increase of 2.13% urban voting; 2.97% in Dholpur district; an increase of 2.70% urban voting in Dungarpur; 2.16% in Baran; 2.02% increase in Bundi district; 0.83% in Jodhpur; 1.82% in Ajmer; 1.84% in Alwar district; 1.53% in Bharatpur; and 1.25% in Udaipur.
On the other hand, there was an increase of 0.29% rural voting in the state this time over 2018. While in 2018 the rural voting in the state was 75.39%, it increased up to 75.67% in 2023. Dholpur district registered the highest increase in rural voting at 5.03%, followed by Dungarpur district at 4.18%.
