Neuroscience: Raj Fares Better Than Many States In Giving Jjm Connections: Phed | Jaipur News

Jaipur: The state’s ranking in the Jal Jeevan Mission’s (JJM) dashboard of Jal Shakti ministry’s portal has been at the bottom since the launch of JJM. However, the state has been successful in providing more connections to rural households compared to many states with those features, as per the website.
Engineers of the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) said that this is because the JJM dashboard determines the ranking of states on the basis of percentage of rural households having tap water connections, which includes connections even before the project. Still, when it comes to tap water connections, after Narendra Modi launched the JJM in August 2019, Rajasthan has provided more than 35.22 lakh of connections.
Before August 2019 only 11.74 lakh of rural households had tap water connections out of an estimated households of 106.66 lakh. Since the launch of JJM the state had provided 35.22 lakh of household connections and, at present, 46.96 lakh households in the state have tap water connections.
“It means, only 44% of households in Rajasthan have tap water connections and Rajasthan is ranked at 35th position among 38 states and union territories – ahead of Lakshadweep, West Bengal and Jharkhand in the state ranking of JJM dashboard, but going by the number of new rural tap water connections that the state has installed in the last four years, Rajasthan should be ahead of several states, including major states like Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Tripura and Kerala,” said a PHED engineer.
Officials stated, Rajasthan failed to show a better performance and could have provided more connections in the last four years due to several setbacks. The most important being the terrain of the state that had escalated the cost of the projects tremendously. Compared to other states, Rajasthan’s has a scattered population in several areas where the number of households within a specific distance are far less compared to other states.
“The second reason being the state government wanted to switch to surface water sources to most areas to make the JJM project feasible. It is taking time for us to implement the surface water project and then provide connections under JJM,” said an engineer.
