Night Stalker: ‘night Stalker’ Who Chokehold Victims To Loot Them Arrested In Vidhayakpuri | Jaipur News

Jaipur: A 19-year-old man, who would chokehold people in dark alleys until they were unable to resist, in order to rob them of their phones and valuables, was arrested by a special team of police on Thursday.

DCP (South) Yogesh Goyal said that a team from the Vidhayakpuri police station arrested Vinay Swami, a resident of Nahri ka Nakar in Shastri Nagar. Police said that Swami would prowl the streets at night, particularly in dimly lit areas. He would ambush pedestrians and use his hands to choke them until they became unconscious. Once his victims were scared of the sudden attack or became unconscious, the accused would rob them of their phones, wallets, and gold chains before fleeing the scene. Goyal said that the accused was helped by two of his aides in these nocturnal heists. “These criminals used a stolen bike to roam across the city, with their primary targets being people around bus stands and railway stations. Vinay would approach people from behind to loot their belongings,” he said. The DCP mentioned that he instructed teams to gather leads on suspects through more than two dozen CCTVs, aiming to identify the gang and its members.
As per police, the search was intensified when a complainant lodged an FIR at the Vidhayakpuri police station on Sunday wherein he alleged while he was waiting for his taxi to arrive in the night, the accused and his aide waylaid and stole his chain and mobile. The complainant told police that he was walking towards Parivhan Marg when he was suddenly assaulted. He also mentioned that he became frightened and despite his efforts, he couldn’t see the faces of the suspects.

“It was a challenging case, as the incident occurred in complete darkness. Our teams initially sift through hours of technical data, including mobile tower locations, CCTVs, and more. Eventually, we shifted our strategy to activate our informants to gather intelligence about a group of young men who were active during the dark hours,” Goyal said.
Police mentioned that it had been a considerable period since a gang of this nature had emerged.
