AIPEF demands independent enquiry into coal crisis
The All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) has called for an independent investigation into the import of coal and whether the coal crisis was intentionally orchestrated to justify the import, questioning the primary beneficiaries of coal imports. The federation urged an impartial inquiry led by a retired Supreme Court judge to probe irregularities in coal import, particularly by the Adani Group. It also advocated for a ban on firing imported coal without scientifically blending it with Indian coals to prevent damage to boilers. The AIPEF called for the central government to compensate state governments due to the directive making the import of coal mandatory at high prices.

‘Aircraft as bribes’: DGCA official suspended, government warns of ‘disciplinary’ action
Captain Anil Gill, a senior DGCA official, has been suspended amid allegations of accepting training aircraft as bribes from flying schools. The aviation ministry has ordered Gill to remain in New Delhi pending further investigation. If the allegations are substantiated, this would be a significant corruption scandal involving the DGCA. A whistleblower complaint accuses Gill of taking bribes from flying training organizations (FTOs) and renting out training aircraft to them at nominal prices. The complaint also alleges that safety lapses resulting in aircraft accidents were overlooked during regulatory audits as a quid pro quo.
