JAIPUR: The Vedanta Pink City Half Marathon (VPCHM), an annual flagship event known for promoting health, fitness, and social causes, marked its 8th edition here on Sunday.
This year’s marathon brought together over 12,000 runners, embodying the spirit of fitness, unity, and zeal to make a difference, run in support of the cause of #RunForZeroHunger and raise over 1 lac meals.
Many celebrities and influencers including Indian Paralympic javelin thrower and VPCHM 2023 Brand Ambassador, Padma Bhushan, Devendra Jhajharia and Mohit Sahney, MD Finova Capital lent their support to the cause of #RunForZeroHunger. Many star athletes motivated the runners at the marathon.
Vedanta’s commitment of providing 1 meal to children for every 1 km run by the participants added more than 1 lac meal in total. These meals, adding to 50 lac meals raised at Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon a few months ago, will be served across Vedanta’s network of nearly 6,000 Nand Ghars, which are modernized, state-of-the-art Anganwadis. Nand Ghar is the flagship social impact programme of Vedanta’s Anil Agarwal Foundation and operates in 14 states across India.
The race, extending across 3 categories of 21-km Half Marathon, 10-km Cool Run and 5-km Dream Run, was flagged off from Jagatupra by newly appointed Rajasthan chief minister, Bhajan Lal Sharma; Priya Agarwal Hebbar, non-executive director, Vedanta and chairperson, Hindustan Zinc Ltd; Vedanta’s executive director and Hindustan Zinc CEO, Arun Misra and Steve Moore, Deputy CEO at Cairn Oil & Gas who also participated in Half Marathon and Dream Run, respectively.
On the occasion Rajasthan CM said that the youth should remain healthy and enthusiastic as well as take a pledge today to make Rajasthan a leading healthy state in the country.
Priya Agarwal Hebbar said, “Marathons are a testament to the power of communities coming together to race towards positive changes. It is much more than a celebration of sporting excellence. We see it to unite people for a cause that’s close to our heart – #RunForZeroHunger. Chairman, Mr. Anil Agarwal has a dream that no child should go to bed hungry. It is humbling that this year, with the enthusiastic participation drawn into the Vedanta Pink City Half Marathon, we are committed to serving millions of nutritious meals to children through our Nand Ghars. I am confident that this movement’s success will contribute in its own way towards our dream of eradicating malnutrition.”
Early this year, Vedanta through Anil Agarwal Foundation launched a millet-based nutri-bar that provides supplementary nutrition to children at Anganwadis including Nand Ghars. Early results from the network of Nand Ghars are promising and indicate an improvement in nutritional outcomes. To share this experience with the runners, every participant at the VPCHM 2023 was given these multi-millet bars. The Vedanta Pink City Half Marathon has consistently been a platform for fostering a spirit of community, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and contributing to social causes.
VPCHM is promoted by Anybody Can Run and the resounding success of this edition, their founder Dr Manoj Soni said, “It doesn’t matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, ‘I have finished.’ There is a lot of satisfaction in that.” “When you put yourself on the line in a race and expose yourself to the unknown, you learn things about yourself that are very exciting.”.
A finisher’s medal was awarded to all the runners. The medal is made from purest and highest-grade zinc from world’s largest & oldest mines in Rajasthan, produced by Hindustan Zinc Limited, a vertical of Vedanta Group.
