Over 400 Writers From Various Countries To Throng Jlf | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: As many as 400 writers from different countries including Nobel laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah, International Booker Prize winner Geetanjali Shree, author and translator Daisy Rockwell, popular author Deepti Kapoor will share the festival space with speakers from Rajasthan such as Nand Bhardwaj, Rima Hooja, Lakhsyaraj Singh Mewar, state assembly speaker CP Joshi and MP Diya Kumari.
Unveiling the details at a presser in the city, managing director of Teamwork Arts Sanjoy Roy said, “Jaipur Literature Festival spreads and proliferates discerning debate and knowledge, presenting different perspectives on complex issues of our times. This year, the festival will focus on themes such as climate crisis, geopolitics, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Indo-china relations, agriculture and energy.”
He said the festival will continue to remain committed to its core values to serve as a democratic, non-aligned platform ensuring inclusivity and freedom of speech. He said the3 past 15 years have seen the iconic event transform into a global literary phenomenon having hosted over 5000 speakers and artistes reaching out to over 200 million people globally.
Last year, the festival moved from Diggi Palace to Clarkes Amer hotel in the city in view of increasing visitors. Apurv Kumar, who was present at the event, said that JLF and tourism go hand in hand.
Kumar said, “The JLF has become a wonderful brand ambassador for Jaipur across various cities of the world. Tourism has certainly benefited from JLF. In coming times, we expect JLF to lend a similar fillip to inbound tourism.” The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the arrival of foreign tourists into Rajasthan.
Rambagh Palace, another partner of the event, JLF has opened the eyes of the world to the colourful culture, and heritage of historic Pink City.
Ashok Rathore, cluster general manager and GM of Rambagh Palace, said, “JLF makes the Pink City come alive every year. The festival has been instrumental in exposing the beauty of the city to the global literary communities and discerning travellers.”
Through its outreach programme, JLF has reached out to over 50 institutions across Jaipur impacting more than 5000 children. Roy said the programme has focused on championing the spread of ideas among the next generation of students through a range of conversations, book readings, storytelling, sessions and illustration workshops.
The five-day festival will start from January 19.
