PMO counters Raj CM, says he wasn’t dropped as speaker | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Hours before PM Narendra Modi’s rally in Sikar on Thursday, a controversy erupted on Twitter after chief minister Ashok Gehlot alleged that his scheduled three-minute speech at the function was cancelled, a charge that was promptly rebutted by the PMO.

Gehlot claimed on Twitter that he was not being allowed to speak at the event through video conference. He also shared a picture of himself watching the PM’s programme live in his office. “Only last night I was informed that I would not be addressing it, which is very unfortunate,” Gehlot wrote.
Replying to Gehlot’s tweet, the PMO said: “You were duly invited as per protocol, and your speech was also kept. But your office told that you will not be able to attend. You have always been invited and graced your presence even during the previous visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

“You are very much welcome in today’s programme as well. Your name is also prominently mentioned on the plaque related to the development work. If there is no physical problem due to your recent injury, then you must participate in the programme and add grace to it,” added the PMO in the tweet.
The CM said since he could not speak at the event, he was putting out his demands in the tweet: withdrawal of the Agniveer scheme, a one-time settlement of farm loans from nationalised banks, a caste census, and national status to Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP).
“On the demand of Rajasthan’s youth, especially in Shekhawati region, permanent recruitment in the army should be continued as before by withdrawing the Agniveer scheme,” demanded Gehlot.
The CM said the state government had waived off loans worth Rs 15,000 crore of 21 lakh farmers from all the cooperative banks under it. “We have sent a one-time settlement proposal to the central government to waive off the loans of nationalised banks, in which we will give the farmers’ share. This demand should be fulfilled,” he said.
Gehlot pointed out that the inauguration and foundation laying of 12 medical colleges taking place on Thursday was the result of the partnership between the government of Rajasthan and the Centre. The project cost of these medical colleges is Rs 3,689 crore, of which Rs 2,213 crore is the Centre’s share and Rs 1,476 crore of the state government. “I also congratulate everyone on behalf of the state government,” he added.
The CM pointed out that due to the guidelines of National Medical Commission (NMC), the three medical colleges in Rajasthan are not getting any financial assistance from the Centre. “These are being built entirely with state funding. The central government should also give 60% of funding for the medical colleges in these three tribal-dominated districts,” he added.
