Jaipur: Taking cognisance of a protest by three students associated with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad who climbed a water tank on the University of Rajasthan campus, Rajasthan Police has filed an FIR against them. On Wednesday, after a mild lathi charge, ABVP national secretary was also arrested by police from the university campus. The station house officer of Gandhi Nagar police station in the city lodged the FIR on Tuesday.
The FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code including section 186 (voluntarily obstructing any public servant in the discharge of his public functions), section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), section 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), section 447 (punishment for criminal trespass) and section 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).
On Wednesday, ABVP representatives had taken out a rally on the RU campus and were supposed to give a thank you letter to the vice-chancellor for agreeing to their demands of allowing all eligible students from the constituent colleges of the university to vote in the elections and students from other colleges will be able to contest the polls.
The representatives were waiting outside the vice-chancellor’s secretariat when a scuffle broke out between the college administration and the student representatives, leading to lathi charge by police present to maintain law and order. The scuffle broke out after the decisions taken by the University Syndicate were not in favour of students, alleged ABVP.
