Pregnant women with ailments endure ordeal at govt hospitals | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Women with high-risk pregnancies are not getting treatment at the Zanana Hospital and Mahila Chikitsalaya in the city for comorbidities or other complications such as medical disorders, issues related to heart and kidneys, and those requiring ICU facilities. These hospitals refer such patients to the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital for advance treatment.
While private hospitals are providing these treatments under one roof, in government hospitals it has become a nightmare for patients whose lives are put at risk as they have to be transported by ambulance.
Even Zanana Hospital does not have an ambulance with ICU facilities for safe transportation of patients. Ironically, this is happening at a time when the state government is showcasing the Chiranjeevi health insurance and the Nirogi Rajasthan schemes at the national level.
“We do not have ICUs or super-specialty facilities. Pregnant women who need treatment for cardiac or renal problems are being transported to SMS Hospital as we do not have facilities here for their treatment. Since SMS Hospital is a super-specialty hospital, such patients get good care and treatment there,” said Dr Kusumlata Meena, superintendent, Zanana Hospital.
A system needs to be developed in the government-run women’s hospital specially at Zanana Hospital and Mahila Chikitsalaya so that pregnant women do not face the ordeal of being transported from one hospital to another.
In the entire process, the pregnant woman and her family face a lot of difficulties. However, both the hospitals claimed that SMS Hospital doctors are available on call, but they are not deployed for full time care of the patients.
Recently, a patient who was referred from Tonk to Zanana Hospital, was examined at the hospital soon after her arrival, but, doctors found that she had other issues which needed to be treated at SMS Hospital. Hence she was referred there. Confused and exhausted, the patient’s family decided to take her to a private hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
Zanana Hospital has 4-5 ICU beds available for the patients. The hospital administration is waiting for 50 beds of ICUs to provide relief to such patients. The patients requiring ICU facilities are being transported to SMS Hospital.
In Mahila Chikitsalaya, Sanganeri Gate, the situation is slightly better as it has ICU facilities, but patients are being transported to SMS Hospital for super-specialty care. “Since medicine specialty doctors are not available in the hospital, the patients need to be shifted to SMS hospital,” said a Mahila Chikitsalaya hospital official.
