JAIPUR: From free counselling of patients to discounted rates for treatment, the medical fraternity in Jaipur district has rolled out special initiatives for the polling day on Saturday to encourage people to cast their votes in the assembly election.
Patients who cast their votes and then arrive at private hospitalswould be provided free medical counselling.Such patients will also be offered discounts and rebates in treatment, according to functionaries of Rajasthan Private Hospital and Nursing Society (RPHNS).
Some of the private hospitals have even announced a discount of around 10 per cent to patients who will undergo surgeries on polling day. RPHNS believes these initiatives would help lure patients to cast their votes and promote voting culture.
“There are around 400 hospitals under our association. Around 100 of them have already sent their confirmation and agreed to provide free OPD, rebate in treatment and other facilities. Counting castes, counting votes…then?
The Bihar caste survey is crucial in understanding the magnitude of caste-based socio-economic backwardness and the nature of economic power-structure in contemporary India. The data reveals an overlap between caste and class, with a high level of poverty among SC communities. Caste determines the socio-economic backwardness of individuals/families in India. The expanded reservation in public sector jobs and state-administered educational institutions makes sense in addressing these inequalities. However, the economic liberalization of the 1990s posed a challenge, as the state had to balance the market economy and the aspirations of the poor. Affirmative action policies were presented as a form of official benevolence, but there is a need to critically evaluate their efficacy.
Sewage lines unclogged, GMCH unlocks toilets for OPD patients
The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Nagpur has opened the locked toilets in the OPD after clearing the choked sewer lines. This action follows reports about the abysmal situation at the tertiary care center, which had turned into an open defecation and urination zone. The hospital administration had to lock the toilets due to overflowing sewage water. As part of the ongoing upgrade plan, the hospital will build separate toilets to ensure basic facilities for patients and visitors. The campus will also have a multilevel parking for patients and relatives.
