Priyanka Gandhi leads Rajasthan Congress campaign to ‘repeat’ Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh poll show | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi is leading from the front in Rajasthan assembly elections. Continuing her series of public meetings – Niwai (Tonk) on September 10 and Sikrai (Dausa) on October 20 – she will address a rally at Aradavata (Jhunjhunu) on Wednesday by unveiling the statue of former Union minister Sis Ram Ola.
One of the arguments behind the leading role for Priyanka is that last year, she played a special role in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh where Congress succeeded in wresting power from the BJP. She thus instils confidence among the workers.
Rahul Gandhi could not go to Himachal then as he was busy with the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Therefore, the entire Congress campaign was handled by Priyanka in the hill state, where former Rajasthan deputy CM Sachin Pilot was a party observer. In Karnataka, Priyanka was the biggest star campaigner of Congress along with Rahul.
The attraction towards Priyanka among young men and women voters is another big reason; she is a crowd-puller and can connect with the masses, said a Congress functionary.
Congress politicians said that there is a huge demand for Priyanka rallies, and it will be their endeavour to organise her meetings in maximum seats to take advantage of her popularity.
Priyanka set to throw punches at PM Modi
According to Congress sources, party functionaries are vying to organise Priyanka’s meetings in their areas. Once tickets for all the seats are finalised, the party will chart her programmes at her convenience. Priyanka’s punches on PM Narendra Modi and her speeches showing empathy with the common people’s struggle in everyday life in times of unprecedented inflation has found resonance with the people.
“People take her words and promises seriously as the ones she made to the people of Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh were fulfilled as soon as the Congress government was formed there. The public is connecting directly with her,” said a Congress politician. Congress believes that while in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh the party has the upper hand, in Rajasthan, the fight is going to be tough as the state elects rival parties alternatively
