Probe Needed In Sexual Assault Charges By Wrestlers: Bindra | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Reacting to wrestlers’ dharna in Delhi against alleged sexual exploitation by the wrestling federation president, Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra on Thursday said the news was deeply disturbing.
“I learnt about it in the news. It is deeply disturbing. I am sure a thorough probe would be done as one has to get to the depth of it,” Bindra said while addressing newspersons in Jaipur.
Bindra was in the city on Thursday to attend a programme at SMS Medical College which is celebrating its Platinum Jubilee (75th) anniversary.
Bindra expressed the need for ensuring a safe environment for the sportspersons. “We have to make sure that our players who play sports should have a safe environment and I think focus should be given on that,” he said.
He said, “Most importantly, on safeguarding, our whole ecosystem should come together to work very strongly on this aspect so that players can play sport and compete in a safe environment,” said Bindra, who won the coveted gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, in the men’s 10m air rifle.
Bindra delivered an oration highlighting ups and down in his sporting career and similarity in sports and medicines.
“The beginning of a sports person’s career and of a doctor is quite similar. A lot of hard work and focus are necessary for any player or a doctor. During this time your failure only teaches you. I also got success only by learning from my failures,” he said.
Bindra said that he could win a medal in the Olympics only after learning from his failures.
