Property Disputes: Cops Must Prioritise Public Safety: Joseph | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph has instructed all police personnel to focus on addressing crimes that impact the general public, rather than wading into choppy waters of land rows.
Joseph’s directive comes a day after he suspended the Bhankrota SHO for becoming entangled in a property dispute concerning 8 bighas of land.
As per an official, Joseph categorically instructed all the police personnel that anyone found involved in similar cases will face action.
“The commissioner’s message has been conveyed to all officials within the city police. The directive is clear- they should prioritize addressing crimes that impact the general public over issues centred on property disputes,” said an official.
The official further explained that whenever cases similar to the one in Bhankrota arise, swift action would be taken against the erring police officer, and an inquiry will be initiated.
The Jaipur police officials said that all cops posted in fields were told that when matters involving dispute over possession of a plot of land are brought to the police station, the official concerned should first maintain the status quo.
“We expect that police officials will demonstrate the same level of enthusiasm in curbing criminal activities within their jurisdiction as they would when dealing with cases of contested land ownership,” the official said.
The city police is also preparing comprehensive instructions regarding matters concerning property disputes. In the past two years, several SHOs and ACPs of the city police have faced suspension over alleged anomalies in probing property dispute cases.
In a notable incident in February, ACP Sanganer, the then SHO of Ramnagariya police station, was suspended following a complaint about irregularities in a property case. As per new directives, senior officials will keep watch on activities of SHOs in cases of land rows.
