Jaipur: Electrification of broad-gauge lines of a total 4,250 km has been completed in North Western Railway (NWR) so far, said officials on Friday. Electrification of 1,104 km railway tracks in NWR in 2022-23 was “the best performance in the entire Indian Railways,” they said.
“Rail electrification work is being done at a fast pace in NWR. Till now, electrification work has been completed on 4,250 km railway lines in NWR. A total of 283 km of railway tracks have been electrified in 2023-24, out of which 244 km tracks were electrified in July,” said NWR’s chief public relations officer Shashi Kiran.
NWR has set a target for electrification of all railway routes by 2023-24. “Due to electrification, the speed of trains will increase, which will save travel time. The use of electricity instead of diesel will also give environmental protection and revenue generation a boost,” added Kiran. TNN
