Rain & hailstorm hit crops in desert dists | Jaipur News

JAISALMER: Unseasonal rains and hail over the past few days have severely impacted the Rabi crops in Jaisalmer and Barmer district.
On Tuesday, a dust storm started in the afternoon with rains and hail that continued till late night. There has been rains in Ramgarh, Mohangarh, Nachna, Fatehgarh, Pokaran, Lathi, Chandhan and other places in Jaisalmer district, while in Sheo, Baytu, Dhorimanna, Gudamalai and other areas in Barmer district. At many places, cattle have died due to lightning.
For the third consecutive day on Tuesday, untimely rains and hail lashed the region due to which ripened crops have been damaged.
In Jaisalmer district, it is expected that crops including castor, isabgol, gram have been damaged upto 80 percent.
Crops worth several crores have suffered damages, leaving the farmers disappointed and worried about repaying their bank loans. Farmers said that with the changing weather and untimely showers has taken a toll on their produce. Now the farmers want the government to conduct the girdwari and announce a special package for them.
Union minister of state for agriculture Kailash Choudhary and state government cabinet minister Hemaram Choudhary saw the crops and assured farmers to get relief at the earliest.
Minister Hemaram went to the fields and surveyed the damaged crops. In a tweet, he said that maximum farmers have suffered 100% damage to crops. He said, “Chief minister Ashok Gehlot should take a decision for them on priority and direct senior officers to evaluate the loss caused to farmers and provide relief to them by giving 100% compensation.”
On the other hand, union minister Kailash took stock of the damage to crops caused by rains and hail at Chaikhla gram panchayat and spoke to the affected farmers. He said,
“I request chief minister Ashok Gehlot to direct the local administrative officers to conduct girdawari and get the report at the earliest. He should and announce the state government’s share of compensation and send the report at the earliest to the Centre, so that relief can be provided to the affected farmers by releasing the compensation under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.”
