Rainfall: Rainfall In August Was Lowest In Last 86 Years In State: Met | Jaipur News
Jaipur: From receiving “abnormal” rainfall at the beginning of the monsoon season in July, to almost no rainfall in August, the state has seen a complete U-turn by the rain gods in the past two months.
As per the meteorological centre Jaipur, Rajasthan received only 30.9mm rainfall the previous month, which is the third-lowest recorded in August, ever. The lowest rainfall that the state recorded in the month of August was back in 1905, at 15.2mm.
The rainfall in August was -74% of its Long Period Average (LPA) in East Rajasthan and -92% of its LPA in West Rajasthan, according to the Met office.
The state received 416.3 mm of rainfall in the monsoon season (June to September) till August 31, which is 112% of its LPA based on 1971-2020 data. All the 10 districts in West Rajasthan were “large deficient” in the last month while three districts in East Rajasthan saw “normal” monsoon, one district had “deficient” monsoon, while the rest 19 had “large deficient” rainfall, according to the Met department’s classification.
In the year 1937, the state had recorded its second-lowest rainfall in August at 27.4 mm. This year, only 30.9 mm rainfall was recorded in the month of August, the lowest in the last 86 years.
In 2002, 52 mm rainfall was recorded in August, while in 2005, 48.3 mm rainfall was recorded. IMD has predicted that light to moderaterainfall in the state between September 7 and 9. TNN
