Rajasthan: Daughter-in-law of ex-MLA, on hunger strike, hospitalised | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Sujangarh Zila Sangharsh Samiti president Pooja Chabbra, who is on hunger strike for past 49 days demanding to make Suratgarh a district, was admitted to SMS hospital after her health deteriorated on Sunday. Chabbra has been abstaining from eating food grains and has survived on a liquid diet for the past 49 days. She is the daughter-in-law of former MLA Gurcharan Chabbra, who died while on a hunger strike demanding a ban on liquor in the state in 2015.
“She has indigestion, fever and body ache. Doctors have said that she will undergo some more tests on Tuesday. Prime facie they feel it is because of weakness due to improper diet for the last 49 days and requested her to break the hunger strike. Hope she will respond to medication,” said Bobby Chaudhary, a member of the samiti.
Chabbra’s family has appealed to the protesters in Suratgarh to not come to Jaipur and instead continue their campaign in the tehsil.
“The campaign has not stopped and even today the samiti team visited villages as per the schedule. They are creating awareness on why the tehsil needs a district status,” said Choudhary.
He expressed his anger that none from the government has reached out to them even after Chabbra’s ill health. The samiti leaders had already given a call to intensify the protest if Suratgarh wasn’t mentioned in the notification.
