Rajasthan: Ex-speaker Deepender Singh Shekhawat wants Congress probe into MLA resignations | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: A day after the Opposition gave a notice for a privilege motion on the “forced” resignations of pro-Gehlot MLAs in September last, former Speaker Deepender Singh Shekhawat, an MLA of former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot’s camp, on Friday questioned the resignations and demanded an inquiry by the Congress high command.
The affidavit submitted by the Assembly secretary in reply to Rajasthan High Court’s notice on a PIL filed by Deputy Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore of BJP on the matter has come in handy to the Opposition to embarrass the ruling Congress and prompted the detractors of CM Ashok Gehlot to target him afresh.
Rathore had approached the HC with a PIL on the resignation of 81 MLAs on September 25 last in support of the CM. The MLAs later withdrew the resignations, claiming they had put in the papers under pressure.
“I do not know whose pressure it was, but an affidavit was given that there was pressure. So it is a matter of investigation, and it should be investigated. The kind of things happening is very unfortunate,” said Shekhawat to the media the other day.
Shekhawat further said, “Everyone has been hurt by the way the events have taken place. The high command should take cognizance of this. I have also been doing politics for the last 50 years, but I never saw anything like this before. This has not been the tradition of the Congress.”
Targeting the Opposition for taking the matter to the court, he said, “Till now such cases had not gone to court. Both the court and the Assembly have their own limits. We work within our limits.” Shekhawat also said it was surprising that a BJP legislator was on the list of those who resigned.
Shobha Rani Kushwah, an expelled BJP legislator, was found to be in the list of the MLAs who had submitted their resignations.
