Fourteen gates of Kalisindh Dam in Jhalawar district were opened to release excess water on Saturday

KOTA: Moderate to heavy rainfall lashed parts of Kota, Jhalawar and Bundi districts of Hadouti region on Friday night and continued at intervals throughout Saturday.
Meanwhile, amid the constant rain in Hadouti as well as in neighboring Madhya Pradesh, the inflow of the water rose in dams in Jhalawar and Kota prompting dam engineers to open the gates of at least four reservoirs in Jhalawar and the Kota barriage dam leading to the release of around 3 lakhs cusecs water.
Jhalawar reportedly witnessed maximum rainfall since late Friday night and gates of Kalisindh dam, Chapi dam, Rajgarh dam and Bhem Sagar dam were opened one by one on Saturday morning.
According to junior engineer at Jhalawar flood control room, Prateek Baswal, three gates each of Kalisindh dam, Chapi dam and Rajgarh dam were opened on Saturday morning and over 90,000 cusecs water was released but constant rise in the water level till 4.30pm further prompted to open a total 14 gates of Kalisindh dam. Similarly, five gates of Rajgarh dam, four gates of Chapi dam and a gate of Bhem Sagar dam were opened respectively.
Lightning claims life of elderly man
Lightning claimed the life of an elderly person in Barmer on Friday. In another incident, 20 goats also died due to lightning. The victim has been identified as Shaitan Singh. He died on the spot when lightning struck him while taking shelter under a tree. Twenty goats of one Khetram died due to lightning in Jaisar village.
