Rapido takes on Ola, Uber with entry into the cab space

NEW DELHI: Rapido is all set to take on deep-pocketed Uber and Ola with its entry into the cab business. The company has forayed into the space with an initial fleet of 1 lakh vehicles. The expansion into cab services, the firm said, is a strategic move to meet the diverse commuting needs of its customers while driving business growth and expansion.
Rapido Cabs will operate through a SaaS-based platform. Drivers will be required to pay a subscription fee to the firm. For instance, upon reaching earnings of Rs 10,000 from the Rapido app, drivers will be subject to a subscription fee of Rs 500. Within the Rapido ecosystem, drivers can avail the benefit of direct payment from customers, free from any company interference, the firm said in a statement.
“Our innovative SaaS-based platform revolutionises the conventional commission system for drivers, tackling the persistent challenge of commission sharing with aggregators. This pioneering approach ensures that drivers incur only a minimal software usage fee, marking a significant shift in the industry. It also prioritises customers by ensuring lowest price guarantee and making our services exceptionally affordable for all,” said co-founder Pavan Guntupalli.
Rapido currently provides auto, bike taxi, and cab services in more than 100 cities across India. It claims to command a 60% market share in bike taxis.
