The Supreme Court of India has stated that all orphans, regardless of the cause of their parents’ death, should have access to benefits and schemes, such as the PM Cares fund, that were originally intended for children orphaned during the Covid-19 pandemic. The court asked the Centre to consider extending these benefits to all orphans and to provide instructions on the matter. The petitioner argued that benefits under the Right to Education Act could be extended to other orphan children, and the court directed the Centre and states to respond to this suggestion.
