Jaipur: The police in Sikar averted a possible gang war by arresting seven members of a gang with illegal possession of five country-made firearms and 25 live cartridges on Tuesday.
Initial investigation by police revealed that the main accused Ashok Sansi had started the gang to take revenge of the murder of his brother who was killed 11 months ago.
He also wanted to control illegal mining business in the region. Police have recovered iron pipes and red chilli powder from the possession of the gang members.
Acting on a tip-off on the presence of Sansi and his six gang members near Rewasa village, the police started the search operation since Monday evening.
“We found seven persons sitting in a big pothole in the jungle area of the village and took them into custody. After their identification, it was found that they were part of Sansi gang which is into loot, assault and giving protection in illegal mining,” said Parish Deshmukh, superintendent of police, Sikar.
He said that the arrested accused were identified as Ashok Sansi (27), Vikas Kumawat (24), Manish Kumawat (21), Dilraj Kumar (21), Mukesh Meena (25) and Rahul Verma (19).
“Various cases are registered against them at different police stations in Sikar. We have seized five country-made firearms and 25 live cartridges from their possession,” Deshmukh added.
Police said the gang was operated by one Roshan Lal who was killed by the rival gang 11 months ago.
