Jaipur: As you wait for the green light at a traffic post, a couple of women approach your car, urging you to pull down the window glass while another hand pointing out to a woman of the group with a baby bump, who seem to be in excruciating pain.
“Sir, can you help Rs 150. The woman is about to deliver, and we want to take her to a hospital. We don’t have money,” woman pleads in desperation.
Commuters are used to this kind of trickery and just don’t look at them, while some unaware compassionate souls yield in generosity. Yashwardhan Ranawat, founder of Udaipur Tourism Development Foundation (UTDF), said, “The beggar menace can be eradicated in Rajasthan as there are no organized nexus like one comes across in big cities like Delhi. All we want is not the leave it fully on the government and take responsibility ourselves.” In Jaipur, the Hotel and Restaurants Association (HRAR) writes to the Municipal Corporation regularly to take measures. tnn
