Row Over Getting Hindi Students Enrolled In Eng-medium Schools | Jaipur News
Jaipur: With the education department carrying out admissions for English medium in Hindi medium schools again, Hindi medium students are confused as to what medium they would be taught in.
In the city and neighbouring districts like Ajmer, residents and local political leaders have protested this change and have sought answers what will happen to students who were already studying in Hindi medium.
“It is easy to convert schools with fewer number of children or in primary classes to Mahatma Gandhi English Medium Schools as the foundation is still being set in such students. But students who have already been studying in Hindi medium, it is very difficult for them to switch as now all subjects will be in English,” said Sunil Yadav, president of All Rajasthan Parents Forum. The government has also said if students still want to study in Hindi medium, then they can be accommodated in nearby schools. Parents said this could lead to an increase in dropouts among adolescent students.
“Only those who are not financially strong, send their children to government schools. If monthly transportation cost is higher than the annual school fee, then it will automatically increase dropout numbers and education of girls is usually the first to get impacted,” added Yadav.
On Wednesday, residents in Ajmer also held a protest outside a government school and locked the gates of the school, till the authorities find a solution to the issue on where existing students who were studying in Hindi medium will study. Some residents also alleged that Hindi medium students are being given a transfer certificate and being asked to leave the school.
Officials from the school education department, however, said they are in talks with the state authorities to ensure that classes can be conducted in shifts for both the mediums on the same premises.
“Many parents have registered their concerns with us and we are in talks with the officials at the state headquarters of school education department. We are trying to ensure that classes for both English and Hindi medium can be conducted in the same building but in two different shifts,” said an official from the zonal office for school education in Jaipur.
