JAIPUR: Five armed robbers stormed into the house of a trader posing as income tax officials, held his family captive and fled with cash worth Rs 60 lakh and 1.5kg in gold near Surajpole Anaj Mandi Wednesday night.
The victim, Satya Narayan Tambi, told TOI that the accused had barged into his house pretending to be officials from the income tax department around 7.30pm.
“They immediately drew out weapons, held my family captive and said that the search would go on late into the night,” Tambi said. He was not in the house when the robbers came. The accused tied up Tambi’s family and covered their mouths with tapes. “They asked my grandson to show where they can find the cash and jewellery,” he said, adding that they threatened the child that they would shoot his family if he did not follow their instructions.
Tambi said the accused searched the house for close to an hour. “They broke the locks of many almirahs and took away cash worth Rs 60 lakh and 1.5kg of gold,” he said, adding that he had reached the house by 8pm. “The accused were already in the house when I arrived,” he said. The robbers locked him in a washroom and threatened to kill him.
Family members said the main door of the house was usually kept open. “My family was watching TV when the culprits arrived, we later screamed for help,” he said.
Another family member said the accused did not leave anything behind and took away all the valuable items. “They were carrying rods to open locks,” said another family member Ritu Tambi.
DCP (North) Paris Deshmukh said the police were searching for the suspects. A team from the FSL reached the scene and collected samples.
