Sanjay Dutt recalls how it was to wear a ghaghra choli for ‘Khalnayak’ before the iconic ‘Choli Ke Peeche’ song: ‘I was in shock’ | Hindi Movie News
Khalnayak which starred Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff completed 30 years and the film is set to re-release in cinemas from September 4 onwards. It shall play in all the theatres of Mukta Arts Cinemas which would be around 100 screens across the country. The film is remembered as one of Dutt’s finest acts and of course the iconic songs.
The cast and crew of the movie came together this evening at a theatre in Mumbai to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary. The celebration was attended by directorSubhash Ghai along with Sanjay and Jackie. One also saw Ila Arun and Alka Yagnik who sang ‘choli ke peeche’ at the event and shared anecdotes about the song. While this combination of Alka and Ila was too good to forget, everyone also praised Neena Gupta and Madhuri’s dance on the legendary Saroj Khan’s choreography. But the audience also can’t forget the scene where Dutt wore a ghaghra choli in a scene to woo Madhuri’s character before the song. Recalling why he wore that ghaghra choli, Dutt revealed at this event, “Main set pe aaya toh Subhash ji ne bola isko ghagra choli pehno. Main shock main tha, maine bola ‘Sir aap kya kar rahe ho?’ Unhone bola ‘Nahi tu pehen ke aa.’ Maine bola ‘Ghagra choli kyu pehen ke aaun?’ Unhone bola ‘Kyuki tu choli ke peeche rahega. (I came to the set and Subhash said, ‘Make him wear the blouse and skirt. I was shocked. I asked, ‘Sir, what are you doing?’ He told me to go wear it. I asked, ‘Why should I wear the skirt and blouse?’ He said, ‘You will be under the blouse’ (laughs).”
Sanjay added that he would always follow his director’s instructions and never questioned it. Hence, he wore. Ghai then asked him to do some steps and he was shocked again. There was no Saroj Khan or anyone else around. Sanjay then did his own impromptu steps. Well, let’s just say, he did a fabulous job as the audience loved this scene.
During the event, Ila Arun revealed that all her naughty sounds in the song ‘Choli Ke Peeche’ were suggested by Subhash Ghai only. ‘Khalnayak’ revolved around Sanjay’s character who was a bad guy and in love with Ganga (Madhuri) who was in love with Ram (inspector played by Jackie Shroff).
